Research
All organisms are exposed to various stresses. As a molecular mechanism to withstand such stress, organisms respond by various methods such as expression of genes for defense and repair of damage and induction of cell death. The Laboratory of Stress Response Biology is conducting research on the mechanisms by which organisms respond to various environmental stresses, with a particular focus on the mechanism for oxidative stress. We are mainly conducting research focusing on the identification of genes and enzymes that respond to oxidative stress and the mechanism of repairing DNA damage caused by stress. We are also conducting research at the tissue and individual levels to clarify the effects of enzyme deficiency and overproduction that repair DNA damage on development, aging, and longevity.
