Research
We are studying ecological phenomena involving various organisms such as animals, plants, fungi, and microorganisms in representative ecosystems of the earth such as forests, grasslands, lakes, and rivers. The specific research contents are as follows.
1) Study of food web dynamics of plankton (bacteria, protists, microalgae, etc.) and benthic animals in aquatic environments such as lakes (Nakano)
2) Research to clarify the interaction between various organisms and the environment, especially using stable isotope techniques (Koba)
3) Development of a new field that integrates field ecology, molecular biology, and informatics for a network of interactions woven by various organisms such as insects, plants, and fungi (Toju)
4) Research on various ecological phenomena on the earth and the mechanism of sustainable watershed management based on theory and mathematical models (Yachi)
5) Research on life-history variation, population dynamics, biodiversity and ecosystem functions in coupled ecosystems (Sato)
