Research

[This course is for the students entering before April 2022]

We focus on primates in their natural habitats to elucidate their land use and foraging, acquisition and transmission of cultural behaviors, primate parasite ecology, disease ecology and self-medication, sexual behavior and reproduction, social behavior and communication, social structure, and population dynamics in relation to the environment. We also aim to establish conservation biology in primates. We have established research sites in various primate habitats in Japan, Africa, and Asia, and are conducting long-term ongoing research based on individual identification. Our research is centered on field studies, but also includes state-of-the-art laboratory analyses, observation of captive populations, and physiological and biochemical experiments.

Faculty members are located at the Wildlife Research Center on the Yoshida campus in Kyoto and on the Inuyama Campus in Aichi Prefecture.
